Police shooting followed fatal Auburn Gresham robbery attempt, cops say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man was fatally shot and another wounded during an alleged robbery attempt in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood, which led to a police-involved shooting that left one man injured.

Officers on patrol in the 7900-block of South Justine Avenue said they spotted two armed men approach two other men in an alley and announce a robbery around 11:55 p.m. Thursday.

Police said one of the victims was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.

The suspects ran when officers approached. They chased the two men on foot.

Police said one man turned and pointed a dark object in the direction of police during the pursuit, prompting an officer to fire. The suspect was wounded and taken to Christ Hospital in serious condition. The other suspect ran away.

No officers were injured. The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting.
