1 killed in I-80 crash in Will County

One person was killed Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 in Will County near Channahon, the Illinois State Police said.

Traffic lanes opened shortly before 7 p.m.

The vehicles had swerved to avoid an object in the road.

The driver of a semi was killed. Another victim was transported to a local hospital, but their condition was not immediately known.

A witness said there was a bicycle in the middle of the road and the drivers were trying to avoid it. He said the semi caught fire and several people attempted unsuccessfully to rescue him.
