CHICAGO (WLS) -- The first couple to obtain a marriage license and marry in Cook County in 2016 tied the knot Monday morning.

Dimitar Stamatov and Kinzy Frizzle, both 26, thought they would have to wait in a long line to get their marriage license at the Daley Center. As luck would have it, they were first in line at the Cook County Clerk's Vital Records office.

"We knew we wanted to do it this year. We decided might as well do it on the first day. We didn't really expect any of all this attention. So, that was a bit of a shock," Stamatov said.

Stamatov and Frizzle have been together for two-and-a-half years. The ceremony lasted about two-and-a-half minutes. Stamatov is absolutely smitten with his new wife.

"I think it starts with her very beautiful eyes. I sometimes get lost in them," Stamatov said.

The couple said they plan to have a bigger ceremony and celebration in June.

Being first also came with some perks. Cook County Clerk David Orr said he would pay for their marriage license fee. The couple also received gifts valued at more than $800 donated by local businesses.
