City: No plastic bags in blue recycling bins

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago's Department of Streets and Sanitation is asking residents to keep those white plastic bags out of blue recycling bins.

Starting this year, residents must place recyclables in the blue bins by themselves. Anything in a plastic bag will not be collected.

The city says the new rule helps lower operating costs and reduces damage to recycling equipment.
