VIDEO: Buddhist monk robbed at gas station
Police are investigating a robbery at a gas station.

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA -- A Buddhist monk tried to stop a thief at a South Philadelphia gas station and the incident was caught on surveillance.

Video released by authorities on Monday shows the robbery that took place on Sunday, January 3 at the Sunoco located at 801 South Broad Street.

Police say the 61-year-old victim, who Action News confirms is a Buddhist monk, was purchasing lottery tickets when the suspect grabbed his wallet from his hand with approximately $350 inside.

After taking the money, the suspect ran from the store with the victim following him.

The victim was able to catch the suspect when a struggle ensued.

During the struggle, the monk was pushed to the ground sustaining a cut to his left leg.

The suspect then fled and was last seen entering a newer dark silver Ford Mustang with a Pennsylvania license plate of JHY-3783.
