CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago police officer was struck by a vehicle fleeing a traffic stop in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood overnight, authorities said.

The injured officer and his partner pulled over a vehicle in the 7300-block of South Jeffery Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Thursday and asked the driver to exit the car. Police said instead of getting out, the motorist drove away, hitting the officer with the vehicle and knocking him to the ground.

The officer was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition stabilized. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Police are looking for the driver and did not provide a description.
