GLENVIEW, Ill. (WLS) -- A 27-year-old man was killed after his car struck a tow truck on the northbound Tri-State Tollway near Central Road in north suburban Glenview overnight, Illinois State Police said.

Investigators said around 1:45 a.m. Friday, a 2014 Hino tow truck was slowing down in the left lane on northbound I-294 near mile port 46.5 to assist a disabled vehicle. That's when a silver 2010 Mazda crashed into the rear passenger side of the truck.

The driver of the Mazda, identified as Kevin J. Horn, of Elgin, was rushed to Glenbrook Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, state police said. The tow truck driver was not hurt.

State police closed the two left lanes of the northbound Tri-State for about four hours early Friday morning to investigate the crash.
