CHICAGO (WLS) -- An 88-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man were rescued from a fire on Chicago's West Side.

Fire crews responded to a two-flat in the 1200-block of South Avers Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Friday. Smoke poured from every window in the burning home.

Firefighters were able to get both senior citizens out of the home. They were rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns, police said.

Other victims of the fire huddled in blankets near the scene.
