The weather is finally cold enough for WickerIce to hold its grand opening.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The weather is finally cold enough for the Wicker Park Ice Skating Rink, known as WickerIce, to hold its grand opening on Sunday, Jan. 17.

The ribbon cutting and social celebration will be kicked off at noon by Alderman Joe Moreno. Thereafter the new FREE ice rink in historic Wicker Park proper will open for public free skating. The 60x120-foot rink was installed and filled in December, but unseasonably warm temperatures forced the opening to be delayed.

What sets WickerICE apart from other rinks is that it's the only community-funded and maintained ice rink in the city. Skaters must bring their own skates (no rental vendor on-site). Volunteer info, free skate and hockey schedules can be found on the WickerICE Facebook page.

Members of the Wicker Park Advisory Council, Nick Green and Doug Wood, joined ABC 7 live from WickerIce before it opened to the public.
