Police were called to a Chicago elementary school in the Beverly neighborhood Tuesday after a handgun was found.

The weapon was found at Kellogg Elementary School in the 9200 block of South Leavitt at about 10:30 a.m.

The gun was recovered and inventoried and a juvenile is being questioned, police said.

A CPS statement released Tuesday said: "The safety of students and staff is among the District's highest priorities. School administrators at Kellogg followed proper procedures today, and law enforcement was immediately notified."
