CHICAGO (WLS) -- A new chapter for Honor Flight Chicago is about to take off: the non-profit group is expanding their flights to Korean War vets. The announcement was made at an event Wednesday morning at the Union League Club.

More than 5,900 World War II veterans have been flown to the national memorial in Washington, D.C.

There are an estimated 35,000 Korean War veterans living in the Chicago area. Many of them are now in their mid-80s.

Nearly 1,200 have already applied for trips that start in April.
