Report of child sex abuse under investigation
Police in Hammond, Indiana, are investigating reports that a child was sexually abused at school.

HAMMOND, Ind. (WLS) -- Police in Hammond, Ind., are investigating reports that a child was sexually abused at a school.

Officers said the latest alleged incident happened at Lafayette Elementary on Jan. 7. The Northwest Indiana Times reports the parents of a 6-year-old boy said he was inappropriately touched by a gym teacher a few weeks ago after gym class.

Parents say the teacher has been removed from the school. But an official notification warning parents has never been released, parents say.

"I found out two hours, less than two hours ago. I was going to my friend's house. His daughter was coming to school, and he found out, and he told me," said parent Timothy Garcia.

"It makes me feel very upset. I drop off my son here every morning, and they did not tell us the gym teacher has been removed. And he was a permanent gym teacher. They didn't inform us; they didn't write us a letter or anything," said parent Danielle McNabb.

It's the second recent report of a child being molested at a school in Hammond. Last week, a student at St. Casimir Catholic School was allegedly abused during school hours.

No one has been arrested or charged in either case.
