South Side toddler's death ruled homicide; parents investigated

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A South Side mother and father are now under investigation after the death of their 2-year-old son is ruled a homicide.

Georgio Byrd Jr. was rushed to the hospital last November after he was severely injured at his home near Wentworth & 112th Street.

Initially, police were treating it as a death investigation. Now an autopsy has revealed that the boy was beaten to death.

DCFS is investigating the parents for abuse and neglect.
