Police are looking for the driver of a car that smashed into a home in Chicago's Fernwood neighborhood.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police are searching for the driver of a car that crashed into a home in Chicago's Fernwood neighborhood overnight.

The vehicle smashed into the porch of the house in the 9900-block of South Wentworth Avenue just after midnight. The porch roof collapsed and the car was buried underneath.

Ken Hunter, a neighbor, said he heard a loud boom and saw a male driver leave the scene.

"It was gentleman. We saw him get out of the car look check and look like he didn't believe what happened and basically took off up the street," Hunter said.

Neighbors said a family lives inside the home and that they were in the living room when the car hit the house. Danielle Winston was inside.

"It hit - felt like an earthquake. I thought a truck had an accident or something. The house shook. We looked out but couldn't see. We couldn't see because the porch (was) hanging," Winston said.

"It's scary, you know, because it's so close to the front bedrooms. It's really, really scary. So I'm just glad everyone is OK," said Aeris Kency, another neighbor.

No one in the home was hurt.

Witnesses who saw the man abandon the car believe he was drunk. But police have not confirmed that. They are still searching for the driver.
