CHICAGO (WLS) -- A cold front passing through the Chicago area will bring periods of light snow overnight Monday into Tuesday, with an accumulation of 1 to 2 inches, ABC7 Eyewitness News Meteorologist Jerry Taft said.

The front will bring colder temperatures to the region for the remainder of the week.

The Department of Streets and Sanitation deployed more than 200 salt trucks and plows to Lake Shore Drive and main streets on Monday.

Trucks will focus on plowing major routes overnight to ensure roads are safe for commuters during the morning rush hour. Weather conditions will continue to be monitored throughout the next 24 hours.

The department urges motorists to use caution while driving during inclement weather.
