Jeanne Gang-designed Writer's Theater opens in Glencoe

GLENCOE, Ill. (WLS) -- A world-class architect is behind an impressive new theater in the northern suburbs. The new home of the Writer's Theater in Glencoe is designed by the famous Jeanne Gang.

She says that to find inspiration for this new building, she went deep into the history of theater itself.

"We were really excited by street theater," Gang says. "I mean theater would happen in the street before there were actual buildings. So that's kind of the idea here that we're opening this space of performance onto the actual street."

That idea of openness is demonstrated by an intricate walkway that wraps around the second floor of the building, with clear views of the surrounding area.
