CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police are investigating an attempted robbery at a Brink's facility in Chicago's Lawndale neighborhood.

Investigators said just before 3:10 a.m. Friday, the manager reported seeing three men leaving the building located near South California Avenue and West Taylor Street. It was initially reported that the men may have taken money, but the manager did not see any in their possession.

Police say they searching for the three men. A source said they may have been employees, but that has not been confirmed by police.

Employees were not allowed back into the building until after 5:30 a.m.

"You know, we get other things, but not where the employees are actually trying steal the money. I mean, loss of money, things of that nature. Yeah. That's a first for me in 17 years," said Darrell Barnett, a Brink's driver.

Area North police are handling the investigation.
