CHICAGO (WLS) --Newly released emails from the mayor's office reveal Rahm Emanuel kept close tabs on the public fallout of two police shootings.
Emanuel's office released the emails to the Chicago Tribune after the paper submitted a Freedom of Information Act request for correspondence over a six-day period in late December.
It corresponds with the police shooting death of 19-year-old Quintonio LeGrier and his neighbor, 50-year-old Bettie Jones.
The Tribune said the emails reveal that the mayor kept tabs on media coverage of the shooting and asked for information about the families of those who were killed. Emanuel was vacationing in Cuba at the time the emails were sent.
The correspondence reportedly details how the mayor's staff drafted a short letter to the Jones family on Emanuel's behalf. The letter was both texted to the Jones' family and hand-delivered to a vigil for the shooting.
