As a two-time Golden Globe nominee and Grammy Award winner, he's also a husband and father of three children.
He's lending his voice to a new documentary, "Olympic Pride, American Prejudice," which he co-executive produced with director, Deborah Riley Draper.
The documentary tells the stories of 18 African American athletes who competed at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
The work-in-progress documentary is screening Thursday and Friday at the DuSable Museum of African American History and on Sunday at the Illinois Holocaust Museum.
