Controversy erupted at a high school convention on Sunday that brought together South Side and suburban teenagers.

Parents from Kenwood Academy said its students were subjected to a mock slave auction, which was staged by students from Barrington High School as an attempt to show school spirit.

Barrington school district officials said it "offers sincere apologies to those offended by the actions of our high school students participating in the Illinois Junior Classical Convention this weekend. We understand the concern and are reviewing the incident with students and staff who were involved."
