Pregnant woman shot, wounded on Southeast Side

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 27-year-old pregnant woman was shot in the chest and stomach Sunday afternoon on the city's Southeast Side, police said.

The woman was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition. A 29-year-old man was also shot in the leg and hospitalized in stable condition.

The shooting occurred at about 3:45 p.m. in the 9600-block of South Brennan Avenue.

A witness told police that the two victims were outside when a masked person in a vehicle fired several shots at them. Neighbors said they took cover as they heard a barrage of bullets.

No one is in custody in connection to the shooting. Police have few details to work with.

Neighbors in the Jeffrey Manor neighborhood said the area is typically quiet.
