DES PLAINES, Ill. (WLS) -- The state budget deadlock is blocking promised flooding assistance for some suburban families who live near the Des Plaines River.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has committed $2 million to help purchase and tear down 21 homes in Des Plaines.

Many of those residents live in the often-flooded area along Big Bend Drive. Residents counting on that buyout money to relocate will now have to wait.
