CHICAGO (NEWS RELEASE) (WLS) --Linda Yu, ABC 7 Chicago's 4 and 7 PM news anchor transitions off 7 PM newscast on WCIU; ABC7 anchor Cheryl Burton's role expands to primetime newscast.
Linda Yu, Chicago's veteran broadcast journalist will continue on the station's 4 pm newscast while transitioning off the 7 PM newscast on WCIU, The U. Her final day co-anchoring the 7 PM newscast is Tuesday, April 5. Yu helped launch the primetime 7 PM newscast with co-anchor Hosea Sanders, meteorologist Cheryl Scott and sports anchor Jim Rose on January 12, 2015 as the result of a partnership between ABC 7 and WCIU. WCIU, The U, is the flagship station of Weigel Broadcasting. Cheryl Burton, whose anchor duties include ABC 7's top-rated 5 and 10 PM newscasts, will add the hour-long 7 PM newscast on WCIU to her assignments beginning April 6, 2016.
Yu said, "My goal was to launch this new primetime newscast on WCIU and help it find an audience; I think our team has accomplished that. Knowing the newscast will be in good hands with Cheryl Burton, I now have the luxury of a little more time to work on writing my 2nd book while pursuing other interests."
Yu recently published her first book/memoir, Lessons I Learned in America, written in Chinese, as a guide to help young Chinese women in the global workplace. Yu is about to sign a new book deal with a leading Chinese publisher to feature unique stories of prominent Asian woman entrepreneurs, political and cultural icons in the United States.
Cheryl Burton, a native Chicagoan and prominent contributor to ABC 7 Eyewitness News's success in the market, is expanding her role. According to Jennifer Graves, Vice President and News Director, "Linda has done a great job getting the 7 pm newscast established and I thank her for her effort. Like Linda, Cheryl Burton is one of the most recognizable and admired news anchors in Chicago and I have no doubt the audience will wish Linda well while welcoming another familiar face in Cheryl."
Cheryl Burton said, "It's an honor to work with Linda at ABC 7 and I'm excited about stepping into a new, additional role anchoring the 7 pm newscast. It's also a great opportunity to connect with Chicago audiences in primetime on our partner station. The blessing and icing on the cake is teaming up with Hosea, Jim and Cheryl."
