CHICAGO (WLS) -- Seven people were injured, two seriously, in an accident that sent a taxi crashing into a building in South Shore following, police say.

Police say an SUV and a taxi collided around 2:30 p.m. in the 7100-block of South Yates, sending the taxi over the curb and into an apartment building. Police say the two adults were very seriously injured and five children sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The victims are being treated at area hospitals.

"She was speeding down the street, they was at a standstill going northbound and she couldn't stop and she rammed into the back of the cab and he ran off the road and hit the building," says Lamika McCloud, who witnessed the accident.

Neighbors say they are grateful that no one was on the sidewalk at the time of the crash so no pedestrians were hurt.
