REDLANDS, Calif. -- A Redlands woman woke up in the middle of the night and was shocked to find a nude man sleeping in her home.

"It's very unnerving," Bonnie Sylvis said.

Sylvis, 77, says she fell asleep on the living room couch Monday night.

"Somewhere around 2:15 I woke up. Why? I don't know," she said.

She got up and walked down the hallway, which is when she found an unfamiliar duffle bag on her bathroom floor.

"You get the funniest feeling because you know it doesn't belong to you. Where did it come from?" she said, adding that she then noticed a door, which she never closes, was closed.

Sylvis says she grabbed her purse and keys, got in her car, drove down the street and called 911.

Officers responded to the 1400 block of Raemee Avenue and found evidence that someone had forced their way into her house.

Items in the kitchen had been moved, and as they checked the home, they found a man sleeping nude in one of the bedrooms.

Caulin Matthew Ross, 32, was arrested for residential burglary. Investigators say he's a transient.

Police said the woman did not know Ross but he had apparently broken through the back window of her home to get inside.

Sylvis says she didn't hear the glass shatter and that before the guy went to sleep, he actually walked past her into the kitchen and opened up the freezer to get himself something to eat.

"He took a half gallon of ice cream out of the freezer, brought it back here and ate two or three spoonfuls," she said.

She later discovered a saw and an ax, both of which belong to her, had been moved into one of her kitchen cabinets.

"Either he was on something, or mentally, something just wasn't right with him," Sylvis said.
