CHICAGO (WLS) -- Herbert Kenney, founder of Chicago favorite Nuts on Clark, has died.

Kenny passed away Monday. He was often referred to as the "Nut King of Chicago."

He and his wife, Estelle, opened their first store in the 3800-block of North Clark Street, two blocks north of Wrigley Field, more than 30 years ago.

The candy, nuts, gourmet popcorn, caramelcorn, cheesecorn and dried fruit sold at Nuts on Clark gained worldwide recognition and has become a staple for visitors and residents alike.

The couple's children, Carla and Robert, continue their work today.

A funeral is scheduled for Sunday.
