BGA Weekend Watch: 'Smart streamlining' the Illinois government

The proposed constitutional amendment calling for elimination of the lieutenant governor's office is just one of more than 20 proposals in Springfield to streamline government in Illinois by combining, consolidating or eliminating unnecessary and duplicative units of government, i.e. taxing bodies.

Illinois has about 7,000 units of government, most in the country by far, we've been advocating "smart streamlining" for several years, and it's finally gaining momentum in Springfield.
