Tony nominations are out and the word on everyone's lips, to no surprise, is "Hamilton." The musical hip-hopera on the life of Alexander Hamilton earned an impressive 16 nominations. "Hamilton" is the darling of Broadway and so popular you can't get a ticket from the Box Office until 2017! However, "Hamilton" will debut in Chicago this September from Broadway in Chicago. Tickets go on sale soon.
"THE KING and I"
You can, however, get tickets to see Lyric Opera's "The King and I" and I certainly encourage you to do so. The hit Rodgers and Hammerstein Broadway musical tells the story of Anna, a British school teacher, played beautifully by the enormously talented Kate Baldwin, who travels overseas to work for the King of Siam, played excellently by Paolo Montalban. Their contentious, bitter relationship turns sweet in this powerful rendition. From costumes to sets, Lyric's production is outstanding. And kudos to casting the most adorable children who steal the show as the King's sires and Anna's students.
