23 dogs rescued from Texas, brought to Crystal Lake

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (WLS) -- Staff and volunteers from a northwest suburban animal shelter brought 23 dogs back after they were rescued in southern Texas.

The On Angels' Wings caravan drove to Tulsa to pick up the pups, many of whom are still up for adoption.

Some have already found homes.

The dogs arrived in Crystal Lake on April 17.

The Crystal Lake staff met a team from Texas who drove the dogs partway to Illinois.

The dogs were picked up from an animal shelter in Texas where they may have been euthanized. They were brought to the On Angels' Wings no-kill shelter. OAW says the kill rate for dogs in southern Texas is 98 percent.

The shelter began asking for donations to support the trip April 5.
