ST. CHARLES, Ill. (WLS) -- A woman was rushed to the hospital after being injured in a domestic dispute at a home in west suburban St. Charles.

Police said a man threatened to kill his wife during an argument Tuesday evening, and when she went to call police, he knocked the phone out of her hands, sat on her chest and began beating her. When he moved towards a cabinet where a gun was kept, the woman ran out of the garage and crawled under the door as it was opening.

A couple out on a walk saw the injured woman roll out of the garage and rushed to help her. It was then that police say the man began shooting at his wife and the other woman.

"I heard a gunshot, and I looked up and he had a gun and it was aimed at my wife and her, in their direction. And he probably got another shot off before he realized what was happening, and then I tackled him," Steve Spurling said.

No one was shot, however, one of the bullets struck a nearby home and was found in the dining room. Police said a juvenile was in the home about 30 feet from where the bullet was found.

The man is facing several charges, including attempted murder.

The woman was hospitalized with extensive injuries, police said.
