CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 26-year-old woman was shot while riding in an SUV in the city's Chicago Lawn neighborhood overnight.

The SUV was traveling on West 60th Street near South Albany Avenue just before 1:25 a.m. Thursday. Police said that's when someone inside a passing vehicle opened fire.

The victim was shot in the back. The driver, who was not hurt, traveled about a mile from the shooting before stopping near West 59th Street and South St. Louis Avenue. At least three bullet holes were seen at the back of the SUV.

The woman was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where her condition stabilized.

The suspect took off after the shooting. Investigators have not given a description of the gunman or the vehicle. No one is in custody.

Police said the woman is not affiliated with any gangs. Sources said she may have been an innocent victim of a random shooting - that it could have been a case of mistaken identity.
