Heavy rain, hail hit Chicago area during rush hour

The line of storms hit the Kankakee area and then moved through Will County and into southern Cook County at about 3:30 p.m. (WLS)

Heavy rain and hail fell Tuesday afternoon, moving northeast toward through the Chicago area, and is expected to continue into the evening rush hour

The line of storms is moving toward the northeast and expected in downtown Chicago at about 5 p.m.

The line of storms is moving 20-25 mph and hit the Kankakee area and then moved through Will County and into southern Cook County by 3:30 p.m.

The system is headed toward Crown Point and Valparaiso, where lightening, rain and hail is expected between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The rain continues a week of precipitation. Heavy rains postponed the Chicago Cubs game Monday night. The storm left damage throughout the area, including collapsing the canopy of a Shell gas station at 2 a.m. near 26th and Kedzie on the Southwest Side. No injuries reported.

Wet roads could have been a factor in a deadly crash at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on the Tri-State Tollway in suburban Hinsdale, which killed a 61-year-old Wisconsin man.
