CHICAGO (WLS) --A Chicago police officer is charged with official misconduct for attacking a man at Jackson Park Hospital while he was handcuffed.
Clauzell Gause, 40, of Chicago, is charged in connection with the incident which occurred in June of 2015.
Prosecutors said Gause is seen on hospital surveillance footage shoving the handcuffed detainee into an observation room and then punching him in the face several times. After the man fell on the bed, Gause punched him twice more before medical staff entered the room.
The Chicago Tribune reports the undisclosed patient had stood up and punched Gause in the face before this video was recorded, and that forced police to handcuff him.
Gause has been a Chicago police officer since 2004. He was given a $100,000 I-Bond and his case was continued until June 7.
The Independent Police Review Authority posted the surveillance video on its website Tuesday night.
