CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two people were wounded overnight after road rage on Lake Shore Drive escalated to a shooting in Chicago's West Loop overnight, police said.

A vehicle pulled up to a maroon Nissan Altima near South Jefferson and West Harrison streets just after 2:10 a.m. Thursday. Investigators said that's when someone inside opened fire on the Nissan before speeding off.

"I came out on my porch and I could see a cluster of people running around and I could see this kid on the ground. Then we called 911. When the police came, we came out here," said Kevin Kernan, who heard the gunshots outside his home.

Police said a 23-year-old woman who was riding in the Nissan was shot in the head. She was rushed to Stroger Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.

"I think the bullet just grazed - missed the temple. She's blessed. Ain't no luck. She's blessed," said Garrick Patten, the victim's father.

Patten said she was in the car with four other people when someone started chasing them on Lake Shore Drive and shooting at them.

"The car shot one time and chased them for miles, then shot in the car eight times," Patten said.

The 24-year-old man who was driving the Nissan was shot in the backside. He was also taken to Stroger, where he is listed in good condition.

Investigators spent several hours searching the Nissan for evidence.

Area Central detectives have not released information about the suspect's car or what may have triggered the road rage incident.

"She says they didn't do nothing. Just evil people out there. For no reason, they got into it. No reason whatsoever," Patten said.
