Chicago initiative collects household items for transitioning homeless veterans

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago alderman are collecting basic household items in June that would help homeless veterans who are moving to permanent housing as part of the End Veterans Homelessness Initiative's "Operation Help a Hero."

Personal hygiene (soap, deodorant and toothpaste), kitchen/cleaning (dish soap, mops and paper towels) and bathroom supplies (towels, shower curtain and plunger) can be dropped off any alderman's office before June 30.

Twenty Chicago Park District locations are also collecting items.

The goods will be used to create move-in kits for the veterans.
