HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- Rosewood Beach in north suburban Highland Park was named one of the country's five best restored beaches, according to the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association.

Others on the 2016 list are Babe's Beach, Galveston, Texas; Seabrook Island, S.C.; Topsail Beach, N.C.; and Redondo Beach, Calif.

The Rosewood Beach restoration was completed last year.

During the work, beach-quality sand was used on the dwindling beach to reverse the effects of erosion and provide habitat restoration.

The Park District of Highland Park oversaw the project, which cost $14.5 million, and included restoration of beach, bluff and ravine ecosystems along a 1,500-foot section of the west shore of Lake Michigan.
