Tickets for Chicago performances of 'Hamilton' on sale June 21

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Tickets for the Chicago performances of the hit Broadway musical "Hamilton" will go on sale on June 21.

The hip hop musical, based on the life of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, will be coming to Chicago for performances running from September 27 through March 19 at the PrivateBank Theatre, 18 W. Monroe St. It is the first post-Broadway production of the show.

"Hamilton" is considered a tour de force for writer, producer and star Lin-Manuel Miranda, whose portrayal of George Washington's right hand man and father of America's monetary system has been stunning enough to garner 16 Tony nominations.

Tickets will be available starting at 10 a.m. at the PrivateBank Theatre box office, the Broadway In Chicago Ticket Line (800-775-2000) and online at www.BroadwayInChicago.com.

"This is by far the biggest buzz, the most interest I've ever seen. We've been getting called for probably six months or so from people interested in tickets," says Dan Markis of Classic Tickets.

Prices range from $65 - $180 for regular performances, with increased prices on holidays. On the day of performances, there will be a special drawing for 44 $10 seats in the first two rows and boxes of the theater for the entire duration of the run.

Brokers, however, are already offering them for seven times that price. Classic Tickets says it's like the Michael Jordan Bulls and Blackhawks Stanley Cup surges. Procuring tickets is expected to be difficult due to the extremely high demand, according to Markis.

Final show tickets for the New York run are approaching $5,000 each on the secondary market. Manuel seems excited to be coming to the Windy City.

"We are coming to see you first! Hamilton's ghost insisted we open at the Private Bank Theatre-see you there," Manuel says in a promotional video.

As for tips for successfully getting tickets online for the Chicago run?

"Have a real fast computer and good luck," Markis says.
