Dog handler accused of faking veteran status

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The head of a veteran's charity dealing with K9s has been accused of stolen valor.

Eric Wolfe has been charged with forgery after he allegedly lied about serving in the United States Air Force.

A panhandler wearing a military uniform was called out as a fake, and the confrontation was caught on camera

Wolfe was previously featured in the news for his work with veterans suffering from PTSD.

His various non-profit organizations assist veterans by continuing training with K9s.

Wolfe claimed he had suffered from PTSD himself after a deployment to Afghanistan as a canine bomb handler.

The man was arrested Tuesday after the Veteran's Administration says Wolfe never served in the Air Force.

Officials say Wolfe was caught in a scheme to forge his name on a military release form in order to get veteran license plates and veteran status on his driver's license.

Court documents show the move was "part of his continuing scheme to raise money for several of his non-profit K9 programs to help veterans."

Organizations like the Animal Welfare League and One Love Pit Bull Foundation say they have cut ties with Wolfe and expressed their deep concerns about stolen valor.
