LA PORTE, Ind. (WLS) -- Indiana investigators say they have recovered the body of a swimmer who went missing in Pine Lake in LaPorte County.

Indiana police say Jeremy Dabney, 21, from Gary, Ind., was out Friday evening with four friends on a pontoon boat. The group of friends decided to go swimming and the victim began to struggle. His body was recovered by a search team shortly after midnight Saturday.

Two in the group tried to help the victim but found themselves being pulled under, so they returned to the pontoon to call for help, according to officials.

Officials said drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in his death. Police emphasize that people out on lakes should always wear life jackets for their safety.
