McHenry deputies help rescue elderly woman from burning home

MCHENRY, Ill. (WLS) -- McHenry County sheriff's deputies helped rescue an elderly woman trapped inside her burning home early Monday morning.

The woman, who was the sole occupant of the home in the 300 block of Kent Road in McHenry, called 911 to report that her house was on fire and she was trapped.

Three deputies and the McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded to the call at 4:45 a.m. Deputies tried to enter the rear of the building, but were blocked by flames.

The woman was spotted simultaneously by first responders and a deputy as she was coming through an outside bedroom window. The deputies helped pass the woman to first responders.

The woman was transported to Centegra Hospital in McHenry in good condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
