CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man was killed and a woman was wounded after someone opened fire on a group of people gathered for a barbecue in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood.

Police said a black SUV drove by the gathering, which was set up in a vacant lot in the 6600-block of South Union Street, around 11:25 p.m. Monday. That's when someone inside the vehicle started shooting, police said.

A 41-year-old man was shot several times. He was rushed to Stroger Hospital, where he later died. The victim's identity has not been released.

A 21-year-old woman was shot in the back. She was transported in serious condition to Stroger, where her condition stabilized.

Police said the two victims may have been unintended targets. Area South detectives are investigating.
