CINCINNATI -- Police are looking for a suspect who brutally attacked an 87-year-old man in the parking lot of an Ohio business.

James Hayes was coming into work for his 5 a.m. shift at LaRosa's pizzeria when he was beaten and carjacked. The entire incident was caught on camera.

Hayes, a 20-year veteran employee of the business, says he's thankful to be alive after he was pummeled by rocks and his own cane.

He told WCPO, "I hope he don't kill me -- that was it -- and that was all I was thinking."

After knocking Hayes out cold, the suspect escaped in Hayes' vehicle with his wallet that had just $7 inside. Hayes survived with, amazingly, just some bruises.

Hayes said, "I just thank God for that. Because it could have been worse."

Citing police reports, WCPO noted the car was found just three blocks away.

Hayes says while he lost his Social Security card and his car needs repair, he's still thankful. He said, "Cars can be replaced, credit cards can be replaced. I can't be replaced."

Hayes says he expects to be back to work next week after he fully recovers.

Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect to call them immediately.
