1 dead, 1 stable after being pulled from Lake Michigan near 31st Street Beach

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 32-year-old man died after he and a 25-year-old man were pulled from Lake Michigan near 31st Street Beach.

Rescue teams responded to a report of swimmers in distress at the South Side beach around 8 p.m. Monday, officials said.

They got both men out of the water and tried to resuscitate the older man.

The man, identified as Markius Woods, of the 2100-block of South Christiana Avenue, was rushed to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:41 p.m., the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

The younger man was also taken to Mercy, where his condition stabilized, officials said.
