Chicago hoped to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer, holding most events downtown but a few in the suburbs - equestrian competitions at Tempel Farms in Wadsworth, and shooting sports at a newly constructed range outside of Aurora.

As we know, Chicago was eliminated early on in the 2009 site selection process. Instead, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil will host the games starting Aug. 5. As the world watches Rio struggle with major problems like financing, polluted water, and the Zika virus, it begs the question: would Chicago have been a better choice?
