Lightning strike suspected of causing Vernon Hills house fire

VERNON HILLS, Ill. (WLS) -- A lightning strike is believed to have sparked a fire on the roof of a house in Vernon Hills Sunday morning.

The Countryside Fire Protection District says it was notified of the fire in the 1700 block of Sawgrass St. at 9 a.m. A passerby called 911 after spotting the fire on a roof and alerted the occupants of the house.

When firefighters arrived, all of the occupants of the house were outside. The fire was quickly brought under control.

Fire officials said that the fire appears to be caused by lightning. Fire crews from Mundelein, Libertyville, Lincolnshire and Knollwood assisted.
