PUERTO WILLIAMS, Chile -- Chilean Navy divers rescued a giant humpback whale caught by fishing lines, the Maritime Authority of Puerto Williams said.

The whale, which was more than 82 feet long, was trapped in gear meant to catch crabs off the coast of the town, Armada de Chile reports.

Officials said it took divers about 40 minutes to cut the yellow lines and completely free the animal, which promptly swam away.
