6 from New York tried to use fake IDs at Deer Park Apple store, authorities say

DEER PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- Six people from New York were charged after they tried to purchase more than $10,000 in Apple products using stolen identities and credit cards at the Deer Park store over five days, the Lake County Sheriff's Department said.

The sheriff's office said it launched an investigation on July 20, after they received word that the group was trying to make fraudulent purchases in the Chicago area using identities and credit card numbers they had stolen from people across the U.S.

On July 20, 21-year-old Nicole Cannon, of New York, New York, tried to buy Apple products using a fake ID and counterfeit credit cards at the Deer Park store, authorities said.

Two days later, 41-year-old Gisselle Diaz, of Elmhurst, New York, tried to purchase Apple products with a fraudulent identity, the sheriff's office said.

Two days after that, 26-year-old Corbett Ortiz, of New York, New York, 18-year-old Quintin Ortiz, 21-year-old Melinda Aquino, and 20-year-old Frank Aulet, all of the Bronx, New York, also tried to make fraudulent purchases at the Deer Park store, authorities said.

Sheriff's detectives said they recovered more than $10,000 worth of stolen Apple products over the course of their investigation. All six suspects were arrested and charged.

Cannon was charged with burglary, possession of a counterfeit credit card, use of a counterfeit credit card, unlawful use of a fraudulent ID to commit theft, identity theft and forgery. She is being held at Lake County Jail on $125,000 bail. She is due in court Aug. 17.

Diaz was charged with retail theft, identity theft and burglary. She is being held at Lake County Jail on $75,000 bail. She is due in court July 28.

Corbett Ortiz was charged with burglary, possession of a counterfeit credit card, use of a counterfeit credit card, unlawful use of a fraudulent ID to commit theft, identity theft and forgery. He is being held without bail at Lake County Jail. He is due in court July 25.

Quintin Ortiz was charged with burglary, possession of a counterfeit credit card, unlawful use of a fraudulent ID to commit theft, identity theft and forgery. He is being held without bail at Lake County Jail. He is due in court on July 25.

Aquino was charged with burglary, possession of a counterfeit credit card, unlawful use of a fraudulent ID to commit theft and identity theft. She is being held at Lake County Jail on $150,000 bail. She is due in court on July 26.

Aulet was charged with possession of a counterfeit credit card, possession of a fraudulent ID to commit theft and identity theft. He is being held on $250,000 bail. He is due in court on July 26.
