Disney's "Newsies" is the little show that could. It was only supposed to run on Broadway for 100 performances. It was so popular it played for 1,004 performances and now a national tour. "Newsies" came to Chicago last year on its first National Tour and this is its return at the Cadillac Palace Theatre through August 7. The show is set in 1899 during the New York City paper boy strike. It is filled with fun and dancing (which it won the Tony for Best Choreography in 2012) and amazing songs (Tony for Best Original Score in 2012) This is a family musical that should not be missed.


Broadway In Chicago announces its full concert line-up at the annual Free Broadway in Chicago Summer Concert, sponsored by ABC7 Chicago and hosted by Janet Davies, of ABC7's entertainment and lifestyle program 190 NORTH.

This year's concert takes place on Monday, August 15, 2016 at 6:15 p.m. at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park; and what an amazing line-up it is. This year there will be performances including Disney's "Aladdin," "BEAUTIFUL: The Carole King Musical," "The Bodyguard" with R&B superstar Deborah Cox, "Finding Neverland," the 2015 Tony Award-Winning Best Musical "Fun Home," the 2014 Tony Award-Winning Best Musical Revival "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," Rodgers & Hammerstein's "The King and I," "The Phantom of the Opera," the completely original new musical comedy "Something Rotten!" and "Stomp."

Again, it's FREE. But get there early because the park fills up fast.


Goodman Theatre's Scenemakers Board has its 5th annual Scene Soirée summer fundraiser Friday, July 29. Celebrating the best of Chicago's diverse neighborhoods, the event will take place at Ovation on 2324 W. Fulton beginning at 8 p.m. Dress code is summer cocktail attire. Guests will hit the dance floor, sample local craft beer and Chicago-inspired foods. Netflix has finally announced the date of its "Gilmore Girls" reboot. "Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life" debuts November 25. Special 4-part series with each 90-minute episode taking place in each of the four seasons of the year. Series stars Laura Graham and Alexis Bledel return. Check out a teaser below.
