CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police are searching for suspects after an Uber driver was carjacked on Lake Shore Drive and his two passengers were robbed.

Roy Smith said he picked up two passengers near the lakefront just before 2:10 a.m. Tuesday. As he drove onto the inbound 31st Street ramp to Lake Shore Drive, another car blocked him in and two men got out.

"They got out the driver's side and the front passenger side, both with guns drawn. They came over to the car and said, 'Get out the car! Get out the car! Give me your wallet!' I said, 'Well can I get my medicine?'" Smith said.

Smith is a kidney recipient and a diabetic. The armed men never allowed the 63-year-old man to get those pills. Instead, one of the men snatched his checkbook out of his shirt pocket while the other robbed the two passengers in the back seat.

The suspects got into Smith's vehicle and started to drive away before the last passenger was completely out. The 30-year-old man fell onto the street and cut the back of his head.

He was transported to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, where he is listed in good condition. No one else was hurt.

Smith said he was in disbelief during the carjacking.

"It just didn't seem real still. I'm sitting there looking at the gun pointed at me, but it's still not registering really that that's happening to me," Smith said.

Smith said his car is a dark gray 2015 Ford Fusion SE with Illinois license plate Q38-6662.

An Uber spokesperson said they checked on Smith's well-being and are glad to know he's OK.

Smith said this experience won't stop him. He still plans to drive for Uber.

No one is in custody. Area Central detectives are handling the investigation.
