Weekend CTA construction impacts multiple lines

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Several CTA lines will be impacted this weekend due to construction.

Construction is slated to run between Friday night to early Monday. Normal service is expected to resume before the Monday morning rush hour, CTA officials said.

Commuters using the Blue Line and trains traveling in the Loop will be impacted.

LOOP TRAINS DETOURED

Train lines operating in the Loop will be detoured due to track closures along Lake and Wabash.

Beginning 10 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday, the portions of Loop Elevated tracks along Lake Street and Wabash will be closed related to construction work on the new Washington/Wabash CTA station. As a result of these track closures, Brown, Orange, Green and Pink line trains will be rerouted as follows:

Orange and Brown Lines: Trains will operate as one route, between Kimball and Midway, via Wells and Van Buren.

Green Line: Trains will operate between Harlem/Lake and Cottage-Ashland/63rd via Wells and Van Buren.

Pink Line: Trains will operate between 54th/Cermak and downtown via Wells and Van Buren. Trains will begin/end their trips at Roosevelt station.

Customers may transfer between the Loop elevated, and Blue and Red line subways at Harold Washington Library (Loop elevated) and Jackson (Blue and Red lines) stations.

BLUE LINE ADDISON STATION TEMPORARILY CLOSED

The Addison Blue Line station will be temporarily closed beginning 10 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday. During this time, Blue Line trains traveling in both directions will bypass the Addison station while the CTA modernizes the station as part of its Your New Blue modernization of the Blue Line O'Hare branch. Improvements to Addison include the addition of an elevator.

Free shuttle bus service will be provided between the Addison and Belmont Blue line stations throughout the temporarily closure. O'Hare- and Forest Park-bound customers at Addison can access Blue Line trains by taking the free shuttle buses to the Belmont station. Blue Line customers traveling to the Addison station will need to exit at Belmont and then transfer to the free bus shuttle.

With the exception of customers who use the Addison station, Blue Line riders will see little to no impact to service this weekend.
